The most marginalized people in the world were not the blacks in America, nor the blacks in apartheid South Africa. They were not the Indians under British rule nor people living with disabilities; even though the latter have had their own fair share of victimisation. 

The most marginalized people in the world today are dwarfs! Yeah, you heard me right — dwarfs. You say "but how come?" Well, answer these questions for me: how many dwarfs do you know personally? How many dwarfs are elected into public offices? How many dwarfs work in the private sector or the Civil Service? How many dwarfs have a member of your family married? or better still would you allow a loved one marry a dwarf? 

Have you ever asked yourself why one seldom see dwarfs on the street or the mall? Is it because we don't have many of them anymore? Well, let me shock you.

According to recent statistics there are 651,700 dwarfs in the world. While in Nigeria alone there are more than 20,000 dwarfs! Which prompts the question — where are all the dwarfs?

I will tell you where they are — in the dark! Due to our mocking stares and wayward attitude towards them, they seldom come out during the day. And just like vampires, they usually have to wait for the sun to set before they go about their business. 

The next time you see the rare sight of a dwarf walking down the street, I beg you to keep it cool and not stare too much as though you've just seen an alien. After all, dwarfs are people too!
