A COSTLY RISK

Traveling by road without earpiece is a very big mistake. Because to be confined with a fool in the same space, even just for a minute, is unbearable torture.

The most annoying passenger in any bus is the self acclaimed philosopher, who is ever ready to impress people with his shallow views about issues and life, whether you ask him or not.

Then there is the political expert who thinks he is a better political analyst than Dr. Reuben Abati, Rufai and Tundu put together. What a clown!

Traveling without earpiece or music can also be quite boring. So boring in fact, that one can start counting trees just to overcome the boredom. And if you are not the music type, you can always listen to something educational or motivational. However, if you forget your earpiece at home, make sure to buy one at the park before the bus moves.

Travelling without a earpiece is not only risky, but deadly; especially when a fellow passenger is trying to force you into a conversation you are not interested in. Sometimes I intentionally nod my head to the music just to let him know that I am not listening to whatever he is saying. But some people can be persistent sha!

I shuttle to work every day from Igbogene to Ovom — a mere 20 to 25 minutes journey — yet, I can't afford to leave the house without a earpiece. I don't want any fool to distress my soul with his stupid and childish talk!  The Bible says to “guard your heart with all diligence”; I take that scripture personally. Because I know that what goes through my ears enters into my heart and then influences my life. I simply can't take that chance.
