My Late Father

A thousand feelings of despair,

Invading my heart in one sudden rush,

The moment I heard of your passing-away,

My dear loving father.

Though yours may not have been a long life,

It was still a life well-lived.

Your children would never forget you,

Majidun will always remember you,

My dear loving father.

You were a voice for those who had no voice,

A father to those who were fatherless,

A husband to many widows.

And even till your dying breath,

You continue to put others first.

So many virtues you taught me:

Virtues of diligence, discipline and devotion.

I would indeed consider myself very lucky,

If I can only become half of the man you were.

As you journey peacefully to the great beyond,

Your lessons in our hearts abound.

You were really one of a kind Kanos Paikiegha —

One of the finest men I've ever known!

Victor K. Paikiegha (15/9/1962 — 26/7/2021)
