The Pathetic Life Of A Nigerian

Man cannot tap into his higher creative powers until he’s so secured of his basic needs that he no longer has to worry about them. And in this regard, I believe the Nigerian man is quite disadvantaged compared to his counterparts in other developed countries of the world, where they’ve so much abundance that an individual can dedicate himself wholly to other aspects of life. I remember once watching an interview of an American who had dedicated more than twenty years of his life to the study of dolphins! In Nigeria, we don’t have the luxury to study dolphins – we just eat them!

The average Nigerian, without exaggeration, can barely afford to eat three square meals and those who’re fortunate enough to afford it, you’ll find if you care enough to do the research that the meal is lacking in quality and more in quantity. Also, it is really a shame that we’re still been confronted with the issue of lack of adequate power supply, no sorry; I think the appropriate word will be lack of sufficient power supply – so that time you’d have invested in some productive venture is being used for looking for a place to charge your phone or to buy diesel for your generator.

To conclude: until the basic needs of man are met, he simply cannot fulfill his higher needs. Nigeria is too blessed and endowed as a nation to be grappling with much of the issues we’re still being faced with. A land rich with so much natural and mineral resources shouldn’t be borrowing at the alarming rate we’re presently borrowing. A country with so much manpower and fertile soils should not be starving as much as we are.

However, due to the curse of having the most corrupt leaders on planet earth, the life of an average Nigerian has been subjected and reduced to that of merely hiking out a living for the rest of his life; while others less brilliant and less hardworking as himself are making a life for themselves. How sad.
