CITY OF LUNATICS

I counted nothing less than seven mad people on the road on my commute to work this morning, from Yenegwe to Ovom.

The sight of stack-naked mad people walking along the streets of a State capital is an eyesore of the highest order. I was recently told by someone that most of these mad people are from neighboring states like Delta and Rivers. In essence, Yenagoa is now the dumpsite of mad people in the Niger Delta region.

The government on its part has adopted a nonchalant attitude towards this societal nuisance. What I expect from the authority, first of all, is to establish an asylum to accommodate and cater to these people. After all, insane or not, they are still someone's father, mother, brother, and sister.

Secondly, they should ensure that all vehicles coming into the State are properly checked to curb the influx of mad people coming into the capital from neighboring States.

I am afraid that if this disturbing trend continues, some evil people may start pretending to be mad and meanwhile use the opportunity to commit erroneous crimes in the State. Remember the case of Clifford Orji, at Oshodi Lagos; who pretends to be a madman by day but a murderer and cannibalist by night.
